Twenty robbers raid Potiskum college


Twenty armed robbers invaded the compound of College of Administrative and Business Studies (CABS) Potiskum on Tuesday night and began stealing.....

Twenty armed robbers invaded the compound of College of Administrative and Business Studies (CABS) Potiskum on Tuesday night and began stealing things from people right from the gate.

This was made known by a security guard who lost some of his valuable possession to the rogues.

"I was on patrol, when I returned to the security room at the gate, I climbed the table. I suddenly saw a group of armed and uniformed men wearing overall, their arms included: guns, axe, cutlasses, knives, and some tools I cannot identify.

``One of them pointed at me with a gun. I asked why, thinking they are NDLEA officials. They told me they are robbers. They tied my hands at the back with rope and my legs.

``They proceeded to my next colleague looking after the college vehicles, did the same to him.

``They moved to the administrative block and tied the security, they locked all of us at the gate room,`` he said.

``These robbers broke into Rector's office, searched everywhere then Bursars office, broke the door, searched everywhere and broke the safe and took away undisclosed amount of money.

He said , thereafter they went to the staff quarters and broke into Mr. Ayuba Sabo's House a Lecturer with the Department of General Studies, robbed him, tied him and his family, moved to the Registrar's house, and robbed the wife.According to him, they ``then moved to the Rectors' official Resident and robbed the occupants``.

The victim. Mallam Bala Wakili Dagona, lamented that they broke into his house and robbed him, slapped him and beat him up, but they did not succeed in getting hold of the Bursar because he was not at home.

Reacting to the incident, the Rector described the incident as sorrowful and enjoined the state government to speed up the contract for the fencing of the college.

Daily Independent investigation revealed that the robbers may have been attracted by the story making the rounds that the college staff would benefit from a Bank loan within the week.
